The homes in our area are prone to getting lots of ants. Doesn't matter how
clean you keep your house. It got so bad this past spring that we finally
broke down and hired an exterminator (their services cover all pests,
including ants). We tried traps, sprays, borax, even parsley (I had read
that some people had been successful using parsley to keep ants away), and
none of those helped. The ants were almost everywhere in our house.
In our first home, in the Houston area, we had a big fire ant problem. One
year I just set out lots and lots of traps everywhere and that got rid of
them and kept them away for the rest of the year. When the ants showed up
the following year though, the traps didn't work. A woman I worked with
gave
me a Ziploc bag full of small brown granules and told me to sprinkle them
around the ant-infested areas. I did so that night, and in the morning
every
single granule was gone (I had sprinkled a *lot*), and so were the ants.
Someone had given the granules to my co-worker, and she didn't know the
brand name of them. (I tried to locate them at stores like Home Depot and
also searched online, but was unsuccessful. It was amazing how well they
worked.)
Ants are a major pain. Good luck!
